There is nothing more annoying then checking the flight board and seeing your flight has been delayed. Everything gets thrown off. Missing an important meeting or reservations all make it worse. Even missing your connection flight adds to it. What's there to do in an airport? Sit and wait is pretty much the answer.
This past March break I traveled to France with my school and we hit a couple bumps in the road. We left for the Toronto airport at 7 am, our flight was at 11:45, we were hoping everything was on time and we would have caught our connecting flight from but that wasn't the case. It was originally delayed 1 hour, but then that became 2 hours.. and 5 hours. Finally arriving in New Jersey, bad luck struck us again as were stranded for 7 hours in the airport doing nothing. By 3 am, we ended up crashing in a cheap hotel for the night. After badgering the airline for hours, they gave us a flight for 8:30 pm the next day and 30 dollar vouchers for all the students. We were all so anxious to reach Paris.
Our 7 hours in the Newark airport consisted of sitting around doing nothing, attempting to sleep by making beds out of backpacks and sweaters, and complaining to the airline. It wasn't the best experience. I mean we can't blame the airline for the delay because of the weather, but missing our connecting flight by 10 minutes? That's not cool, it could have waited.
We are not the only ones who hate delays, airline companies hate them just as much as we do. They are not in entire control of what's happening with the weather. They obviously don't like the idea of losing money, and workers staying late. Imagine hundreds of years ago, it would take people months to get to their destination, and today we're complaining about not reaching where we have to be in a few hours! All in all, flight delays can really blow, but at the end of the day there's not much you can do except wait.
