If you're not a soccer fanatic, you might not know what I'm talking about, but if you are, you'll understand where I'm coming from, and quite a few other fans. Fernando Torres, a 28 year old Spanish striker has been on one of the worst coldest streaks in recent times.
His successful career with is former club Liverpool ended in 2011 when he was signed for a record breaking 50 million pounds to his current club Chelsea. After joining the club in January, it took the striker 14 appearances before he netted his first goal in a blue jersey, and it had remained is only goal that season. Since then he has notched 14 goals in 74 games, one can say that that is a pretty ugly statistic. His goals-per-game average has gone down a considerable amount(0.57% to 0.25%) and has shown throughout the recent games.
In the past seasons, the Spaniard has struggled to set his place in the starting 11 rather than the bench. His main competitor for the spot was Ivorian forward Didier Drogba who seemed to please the fans every time he showed his face. Getting the odd start, he failed to really impress his manager, which was proven by his lack of playing time. With Drogba gone now, the spotlight is on Torres now. This current season he has 7 goals in 28 games which is not terrible, but I feel that he can do better somewhere else.
The lack of performance from Fernando Torres has been noticed by millions of fans and what annoys me is that this a player who was purchased for 50 million euros, 4th in all time English league transfers, he has not proven what he's worth. Is he worth it? Should Chelsea let him go?
