TEDx events are independently organized conferences which allow speakers free of charge to speak about personal experiences or creations. The theme of TEDx Youth held in Waterloo this year is "Chasing Home". The term can be interpreted in many ways, for example in a sense of finding where you fit and belong, your "home". You can also understand it as where you're going in life.
Narrowing down where you fit and belong can also mean a couple things. First thing that comes to mind is where you're life is at and if you're happy with it. Settling down with the perfect job, family, house to me sounds like "home". Another way to look at where you fit or belong is being comfortable with yourself. If you don't fit in with others because you think you're not the same as them, the only way to overcome this is realizing that you are no different. Accepting this is certainly a way to understand as "chasing home".
The other way that I look at "chasing home" is more of a literal tense. There are some places that people call their home. For me I can say the soccer pitch. I am there more than I am in my house. I've been playing soccer for about 11 years now and I can say that I can call the soccer field my home. I have lived in the same house my entire life so there's no really other place that I can call home.
"Chasing Home" can be understood differently by everyone, but this how I interpret it. I'm looking forward to attending this event and hearing all the different speakers and their stories, they will certainly complete my understanding of "Chasing Home". If you are thinking about going to TEDx Youth, it is March 27th, in Centre of The Square, Kitchener, Ontario.
