Today, the technology in the art of photography is taking a huge leap forward. Cameras today produce beautiful, high-resolution images, automatic settings, high-speed shutter settings. You can see a picture immediately and have the option to keep it, edit it in any shape or form, or delete it.
Anyone can capture a world class picture by simply tapping a screen on their smart-phones. Anyone can be a photographer, what's the challenge in that?
If you haven't heard about Lomography, it's time to learn a bit about it.
Lomography is a fairly recent type of analog photography (film) invented in the early 90's by Austrian students, who came upon a small Russian camera called the Lomo Kompakt Automat. From there they began to experiment and develop a new style of artistic photography. Their approach and philosophy was to take as many photographs as possible in the most unusual and impossible situations. The result was a flood of authentic, colourful, crazy, unique and off-the-wall shots. The original Lomography cameras that were created were the LC-A, Holga, Fisheye, Colorsplash and Supersampler.
What's neat about these cameras is they all have a different function, none that a typical camera can do. To name a few, the 360 spinner, it allows you to take photos with 360 degree vision, enter the world of panoramic photography with a pull of a cord. Some other cameras they've invented are the "POP 9", which takes 9 photographs at once, the "Action Sampler which takes 4 pictures at once!
Unpredictability is what makes Lomography so unique, it makes it a lot more interesting. Most lomos are considered to be a "happy accident" so whether you're a professional photographer or a beginner, the result will always be equal in the field of Lomography.
10 Rules about Lomography according to their website.
1.Take your camera everywhere you go.
2.Use it any time – day and night.
3.Lomography is not an interference in your life, but a part of it.
4.Try to shoot from the hip.
5.Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible.
6.Don’t think.
7.Be fast.
8.You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film.
9.Afterwards either.
10.Don’t worry about any rules!
